Google Releases it’s first WordPress Plugin

Google released it’s first ever WordPress plugin this week. The plugin called “Google Publisher Plugin” is still in beta. And like with all things in beta should be tested on a test or local site to avoid any mishaps. But we tested it out of the box and so far no hiccups. The Google Publisher Plugin allows you to add adsense to your site and even verify through Google Webmaster with 1 click. Set up is easy. Just install using the WordPress backend or download from Here and install using FTP. Image by Google Once it’s installed you just set up with your Google account and you’re pretty good to go to start adding Adsense and Webmaster to your WordPress self hosted website. Mobile Website Facts Infographic

Can you believe more people own cell phones than toothbrushes? America and the World are obsessed with mobile technology. More searches are done on cell phones than any other device, 3 out of 5 to be exact. I created this infographic to show just how important having a great mobile site is to a business. I know I’d be lost without my cell phone. I use it for everything: GPS, texts, emails, finding a place to eat, flashlight, shopping list, movies, music, games, facebook, twitter, of course making calls and so much more. The list goes on and on. Most people’s phones aren’t just within 3 feet of them every day, most of the time it’s literally right in front of their face. Source (Captain Obvious) Anybody who says having a mobile version of your website is optional, has clearly never met any teenager in the world today. Have you seen a group of high schoolers lately they are all literally glued to their phones. And it’s not just kids, I catch my mother, girlfriend, friends not listening to me cause they’re on the phone all the time. Not having a mobile site isn’t even an option anymore. If you’re site visitors have to pinch and zoom to read your site. It’s a wrap. On this site we use responsive code to adjust the size and display of the site. This method works great for sites with lots of information and multiple offers and sidebars. But for sites that pretty much just have one purpose i.e. a small

Google Takes Down Parked Domains while Giving You Fresher Image Results

On 12/5/11 Google announced it’s most recent changes to it’s algorithms. the most notable being the new “Parked Domain Classifier” which screens out all those sites that have the same vague content and design but different domains pointing to it. Some internet marketers(IM) get annoyed with updates like the Parked Domain Classifier. On the contrary I think it’s a smart business move on Google’s part. Most parked domain sites have no content of any real value. They are riddled with ads and are never what the Google searcher is looking for. Google needs to deliver consistent, accurate and helpful results. So weeding out a tell tale sign of garbage sites is a good call. Google’s freshness update, originally announced 11/03/11 now also applies to it’s image results. They also freshened the update for Google’s Blog Search. Seeing that Google took only a month to transition the freshness update to images after implementing it in web results shows that fresh and up to date content is going to be a key factor in getting to the first page. So for anyone not alt and title tagging their images and socially bookmarking them on sites like digg and delicious not just facebook and twitter should seriously consider starting. My favorite change this time around is the update to “Original Content”. It’s nothing new that a tweak to filtering out duplicate content is included in this update. There usually is something to do with the originality of content. What makes this newest change

New Internet Sales Tax Law

By taxing an online business(affiliate) just like you would a brick and mortar business seems morally sound. More often than you think an affiliate product is in direct competition with a brick and mortar small business in a community. i.e. affiliate for tax software and your local CPA. If a small business and affiliate which are both small businesses compete for the same demographic shouldn’t they be taxed the same. Yes, but the way the law currently is being rushed through is effecting people in states already taking action like where I am California. This action has forced out some of the largest affiliate networks such as amazon. Who don’t want to pay taxes, naturally. I am an affiliate marketer but I don’t personally use amazon or any of the others affected the most. But for some of my colleagues losing  just amazon money has been detrimental to their income and that’s where the trouble starts. Just like with a lot of laws being pushed through, they mean well but aren’t thought out well and then big money or big government gets a hold of it and it’s a slippery slope. What I mean by big money is companies like Amazon. Who naturally has tendencies to shy away from millions in taxes in a handful of states. What I mean by big government is the states them selves who are pushing these laws through because they’re broke and scared like the rest of the country. Or Individual Politicians who play

Getting and Making Good Links-(Foundation of SEO pt. 2)

Let’s move on to Links. A link is an image or text that when clicked brings you to a specific page on a website. It is important to have a lot of good quality links pointed at specific pages of your website to let search engines know that other websites find the content on your website valuable. Think of a link as a recommendation. Google and other search engines see a link pointed at your site as that a recommendation from the site with the Link on it. You can let Google know what the recommendation is for(your keywords) by using it as the text in any text link. Here is an example San Diego Internet Marketing. Now search engines know that this link takes the user to a page about San Diego Internet Marketing. Now hover over the link. I’ve added a title tag to the link. When you hover over the San Diego Internet Marketing link a window will pop up near your cursor saying “Small Business and Non-Profit Marketing” This also lets the crawlers from search engines know what the link(recommendation) is for. (QUICK HINT-You can link from one page of your site to another using these techniques) It is also important to to find out how trusted the websites and pages you get links from are. Remember links are like recommendations. And what good is a recommendation(link) from an un-trustworthy source(website,page,blog,etc..). In the eyes of search engines like Google,Yahoo,Bing and their crawlers trust is measured in

Post Panda Planet

Google you son of a beep… That’s what the creators of most SEO or link building software companies and 12% of the top sites in the US said shortly after Google released it’s Panda/Farmer Update February of 2011. Since then I’ve conducted a thorough analysis of what you need to get ranking and traffic in a Post Panda Planet. In this article we’ll cover what SEO and link building methods work and which ones just won’t work anymore. There is no doubt that the Panda Update effects everyone of us marketing online. Back in the day(only about a year) you could rank high on Google with just some article submission software and a good spinner. Now a days it just won’t cut it. Anybody just looking for what works and not the why feel free to scroll down. Before we get into what works let’s take a look at why Google initiated the Panda Update. Google is a search engine that means it helps people find what they are searching for. Obvious I know. But this means that Google has to give accurate and useful results. With the onslaught of generic content filled sites only getting ranking because they have 1,000 or so links pointed at them spun and spit out by a soulless submitter*. And the sites that seem to be everywhere you look, with only the city or state name changed. Google is smart. That’s why they have a bounce rate*. And it’s why they do market research.

Foundations of Search Engine Optimization part 1

Search Engine Optimization is a popularity contest. Who has the most links? Who has the most visitors? There are a lot of points of view on the topic. You’ve got Black Hat SEO and White Hat SEO. And how are we supposed to have guessed that your PR or Page Rank is not where you Rank on a Google Page. In this article I plan on demystifying SEO and SEM. I want to make it as easy as possible for everyone reading this to be able to grasp the basics of Search Engine Optimization. This is the first installment Content, next will be links, tags and coding SEO, etc.. First things first. Content is KING. No amount of shortcuts or link building schemes can replace unique and periodically updated Content. Content is the meat and potatoes of any website. It’s your text, your headlines. Everything you’re reading right now is the content of this site. Google, Yahoo, Bing and other search engines send out things called Crawlers. These crawlers are computer programs that search the internet perpetually(forever, ongoing) to find and catalog the Content on every website they find. I’ll get into how they find your website later. As the Crawlers gather and make sense of this endless amount of data. They make note of things like how many times a word is repeated or mentioned. These words become the Keywords of your website. The Crawlers even process how many words are present that relate to your Keywords. This means that
